Ergonomic Tip: SIT UP and MOVE

June is National Safety Month! Healing Touch Charlotte is participating in safety awareness by sharing tips on ergonomics throughout June.

This week’s tip is: SIT UP and MOVE

Sit up and move to avoid “Tech Neck”. Tech Neck is pain caused when a person leans towards the screen while engaged in extended computer work. The front muscles – scalene – become shortened; the back muscles react by trying to pull them upright, but can’t and become strained.

This can be avoided by using better posture while computing, and performing periodic neck rolls or stretches described in Healing Touch Charlotte’s post on Tech Neck.

Research shows that proper posture also plays as important a part in health and productivity as periodic work breaks for movement and stretching.
